By registering for a class or workshop, booking a private lesson or party, or renting studio space, you acknowledge that you have read, understand, and agree to adhere to all policies and general studio rules outlined on this page.

BE KIND
Treat everyone with kindness and respect. Discrimination and harassment is not tolerated in the studio.
PERSONAL BELONGINGS
Please respect others’ work and personal space. Do not handle other people’s work without permission. Leave valuables at home, BrickHouse is not responsible for any lost or stolen property.
STUDIO VOLUME
Know that others are using the studio and please use inside voices. If you have to take a call, please do so in the kitchen or outside. Playing music on speakers is not allowed. Please use earbuds.
STUDIO EQUIPMENT
Do not use any equipment that you are not trained to use.
STUDIO SPACE
Be aware of the space you take up. Tables are shared and so is a lot of the equipment in the studio. If you leave the studio, you cannot leave your work on the table or wheel.
DUST MANAGEMENT PROTOCOL
GENERAL CLEANING
- Use a damp sponge to wipe tables and wheels down.
- Use the mops that are located around the studio to mop any dust created in your work space.
- Keep your shelf clean and tidy by regularly wiping it down.
- Clean all shared tools and equipment after using.
- Clay that dries up on tools, wheels, etc. will inevitably become dust that we can inhale in the air.
PROTECTIVE GEAR
Wear an N95 mask when sanding, using the spray booth, or mixing up dry materials. If you do not have an N95 mask, please see staff and purchase one in the studio.
SANDING PROTOCOL
- Do not sand bone-dry work, bisqued work, or excess glaze, in the open studio. Please go to the back in the glaze mixing room or outside to do this. Sand over a bucket of water.
- Never dry sand on the wheel.
- Always wear an N95 mask and eye protection.
- Wet sanding is preferred when possible to minimize airborne dust.
- Clean up thoroughly with a wet sponge and mop afterward.
CLEANING PROCEDURES
WHEEL CLASSROOM
- Turn off wheels before cleaning.
- With clean water, thoroughly clean the wheel head, splash pans, legs, switch plate.
- Clean the adjacent wheels if you have splashed or thrown trimmings.
- Put pedals and splash pans up on the wheel when finished.
- Mop the floor around your wheel and under the center table.
- Clean your sponge and water bucket before putting it away.
HANDBUILDING CLASSROOM
- With clean water, thoroughly clean table surfaces.
- Clean all studio equipment you use: boards, turntables, rolling pins. etc. Put them away when you are done.
- Gently sweep and mop work area floor after every session.
- Clean your sponge and water bucket before putting it away.
GLAZE ROOM
- Mop your spills, wipe-clean counters, tables, and buckets.
- Spray booth must be thoroughly cleaned including the vent.
CLAY, GLAZING & FIRING
CLAY
- BrickHouse provides a (brown stoneware) studio clay which is only paid for when pieces are measured for firing at 6 cents a cubic inch.
- BrickHouse also offers other clay bodies for purchas. Outside clay cannot be used unless approved by the Studio Manager.
GLAZING
- Glazes in the glaze room are mixed and provided by BrickHouse.
- Outside glazes or commercial glazes and underglazes cannot be used without Studio Manager approval.
- Pieces that are not glazed properly will be transferred to the reject shelf. It will stay on this shelf for one class session. After one class session, it will be thrown out.
FIRING
- The firing fee of 6 cents per cubic inch covers both bisque and glaze firing. All pieces require a firing slip indicating it is paid for before it can be put on the cart.
- In a shared studio, accidents may happen that could affect your pieces. Damage caused by the studio will be reimbursed. Damage caused by improper building and glazing cannot be refunded.
- Any work that damages kiln shelves/posts will incur a $20 damage fee.
